Easter is the great victory of Christ, the supreme King of glory. It is the culmination of His earthly mission, the fulfi lment of God's promise, and the moment when redemption was secured for His people. Yet, to grasp the depth of what Christ achieved, we must look back to an event that foreshadowed His sacrifi ce—the Passover.
In Egypt, God's people groaned under the heavy chains of slavery. Their cries rose to heaven, and the Lord, in His covenant love, provided a way of deliverance. On the night of the Passover, every household of Israel was commanded to take a spotless lamb, to slaughter it, and to mark their doorposts with its blood. When the angel of death passed through the land, he would spare those under the blood of the lamb. Judgment fell on Egypt, and the people of God were led out of slavery into freedom (Exodus 12:1-30).
This was not merely an act of deliverance; it was a signpost pointing forward to Christ. Just as Israel's rescue required the death of a lamb, so too did our redemption. Jesus Christ, the true and spotless Lamb, came into this world to be slain for His people. His blood, shed at Calvary, marks those who belong to Him. His sacrifi ce was not temporary, like the lambs of the Passover, but eternal and suffi cient.
Through His death, Christ bore the wrath of God that we deserved. As Isaiah prophesied, “But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our peace fell upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5 LSB). The cross was not an accident of history; it was the very plan of God to save sinners.
And what did His death purchase? Freedom. Not merely from earthly slavery, but from the bondage of sin and death. Before Christ, we were enslaved, shackled by our own corruption, unable to please God. But now, through His atoning death and victorious resurrection, we are set free. As Paul writes, “For He rescued us from the authority of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son of His love” (Colossians 1:13 LSB).
This is the triumph of Easter! The Lamb was slain, but the grave could not hold Him. He rose, securing the eternal redemption of His people. And just as Israel was led out of Egypt into a new life, so Christ now leads His redeemed ones out of sin and into the glorious freedom of His kingdom.
So, dear Christian, behold your Saviour! See the supremacy of Christ, the King who laid down His life for His bride, the Church. Rejoice in His fi nished work. The blood of the Lamb covers you. The chains of sin are broken. You are free—free to worship, free to serve, free to live for the glory of the One who purchased you at the cost of His own blood.
Hallelujah! Christ is risen!
In Christ’s Love,
Francois.
