Lesson 3:
Identity and Culture

Who are we in light of the culture?

1 Thessalonians 2:10b-12

“…But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more [to love one another], 11 and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, 12 so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.”

1. Live quietly

2. Mind your own affairs

3. Work with your hands

4. Do not underestimate or devalue daily faithfulness

1 Peter 2:12

“Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.”

5. Be blameless

6. Be subject

7. Glorify God

Jeremiah 31:33-34

“For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

8. Proclaim the new covenant
